Recently, news about a Chinese convoy being attacked in Pakistan has drawn widespread attention online and sparked intense public debate between China and Pakistan.
It is well known that Pakistan, due to its close relationship with China, is affectionately referred to as "Iron Brother" and is viewed as a "steel brother" in the hearts of the Chinese people.
Additionally, Pakistan has gained fame for its friendly attitude toward Chinese tourists, attracting a large number of visitors.
There have even been reports of South Koreans posing as Chinese to obtain discounts, reflecting the close ties between the people of the two countries.
Beyond grassroots exchanges, China and Pakistan have established a deep cooperative relationship at the government level, with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor being one of the hallmarks of their joint efforts aimed at promoting Pakistan's economic development.
However, despite such a close bilateral relationship, potential security risks still exist.
The recent attack on the Chinese convoy is a clear example of this.
According to reports, the bombing occurred near Jinnah International Airport in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.
The incident took place around 11 PM on October 6, when a convoy of Chinese enterprises encountered an explosion while leaving the airport.
Pakistani newspaper "Today News" reported that the explosion occurred on a main road near the airport, where attackers detonated a car, resulting in several vehicles catching fire.
Local residents recalled that the sound of the explosion was deafening and could be heard by residents several kilometers away.
Following the incident, airport firefighters quickly began firefighting and rescue operations.
Statistics indicated that the explosion damaged 12 vehicles, with three completely destroyed.
More tragically, the blast directly resulted in the deaths of two Chinese personnel, with one additional injury, while there were also casualties among the Pakistani personnel.
China has implemented strict security measures for its staff in Pakistan, both for enterprises and government personnel.
For example, the vehicle carrying Chinese personnel was an armored model.
However, investigations revealed that the scale of the explosive used in the attack was significant and clearly targeted the foreign personnel inside the vehicle, which directly led to Chinese casualties.
As a result, the Pakistani government immediately classified this incident as a terrorist attack upon learning of it.
As expected, the day after the incident, the attackers took responsibility for the act.
According to a report from Pakistan's "Dawn," a faction of the Baloch Liberation Army issued a statement that day claiming responsibility for the explosion.
However, this "responsibility" does not imply genuine accountability but rather sends a provocative signal to the outside world.
Some may be shocked by the audacity of this organization, but understanding the background of the Baloch Liberation Army makes their arrogance comprehensible.
The Baloch Liberation Army is a terrorist organization active in Pakistan's Balochistan province, founded in 2000. Initially, it engaged in localized small-scale actions that did not draw government attention.
However, since 2004, the organization has rapidly developed, with a significant increase in the frequency and scale of its terrorist attacks, becoming a major threat to the Pakistani military.
In 2006, then-President Pervez Musharraf narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by the group during a visit to Balochistan.
Between 2008 and 2010, many schools in the region suffered severe attacks, resulting in schools being able to open for only four months each year, leading to over 400 teachers choosing to resign or relocate to ensure their safety.
The organization’s attacks are not limited to schools; they also include assaults on police and military personnel and even kidnapping and killing ordinary citizens, with their actions being utterly despicable.
To combat this terrorist organization, since 2022, the Pakistani government has invested significant human, material, and financial resources.
Earlier this year, the Pakistani military utilized drones, rocket launchers, and missiles to bomb seven of the organization’s border bases, temporarily suppressing its activities.
However, one may wonder why such a terrorist organization requires such heavy weaponry.
In fact, although the organization has around 4,000 members, its weapons are relatively sophisticated.
Balochistan is located in southwestern Pakistan and shares a border with Afghanistan.
Since the U.S. launched its "war on terror" in Afghanistan in 2001, a large amount of U.S.-made weaponry has flowed into surrounding countries, some of which have fallen into the hands of terrorist organizations, including the Baloch Liberation Army.
Consequently, the organization rapidly expanded after 2004, making it difficult for the Pakistani military to eliminate it completely.
At the same time, as the organization has revived, its methods of warfare and intensity of attacks have become increasingly brazen.
Reports indicate that on September 22 of this year, an explosion targeting a convoy escorting foreign embassy personnel occurred in northwestern Pakistan.
Russian media mentioned that the convoy of the Russian ambassador to Pakistan was attacked at the time.
Fortunately, under the protection of the Pakistani police, the Russian diplomatic team returned safely, with only one Pakistani police officer killed.
This incident again highlighted the craziness and fearlessness of the Baloch Liberation Army, posing a threat even to government and corporate security.
Faced with such a rampant terrorist organization, the Pakistani government expressed its deep outrage, stating it would pursue and punish the terrorists to ensure national security.
Simultaneously, China has also reacted strongly. On October 7, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in response to media inquiries, stated that China has communicated with Pakistan, urging it to fully handle the aftermath and provide medical care for the injured, stressing the need to severely punish the perpetrators and take measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
