In 2022, former South Korean President Park Geun-hye was released from prison after being pardoned. She then spent several months recovering in the hospital before returning to her hometown of Daegu once her health slightly improved.

She settled in her new residence in Dalseong County, which is apparently a rather impressive mansion, surrounded by high walls to ensure privacy.

When Park Geun-hye first arrived home, she gave a live speech to express her gratitude to the local people.

During the speech, an unexpected event disrupted the peace—a bottle of alcohol was suddenly hurled at her.

At that crucial moment, a female bodyguard with a long ponytail reacted swiftly. She immediately stepped forward, quickly blocked the bottle with both hands, and shielded Park Geun-hye as fast as possible.

This entire sequence of actions was completed almost instantaneously, showcasing a high level of professional sensitivity and execution ability, as if she had been dealing with such sudden situations daily.

This small incident unexpectedly brought fame to Park Geun-hye’s female bodyguard.

Many people praised her, and some even remarked enviously that if Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had such a dedicated bodyguard, perhaps the tragedy that befell him could have been avoided.

However, netizens overlooked one question: Didn’t Park Geun-hye lose her presidential benefits?

She no longer receives a pension, and her assets were seized, so how could she still have such a strong bodyguard team?

In fact, Park Geun-hye is indeed one of the South Korean presidents with a rather tragic downfall—her assets were confiscated, she spent nearly five years in prison, her health is poor, and she has no children or family support.

It’s even said that the house she currently lives in was bought with financial assistance from her lawyer, Yoo Young-ha.

Despite this, Park Geun-hye’s security services have been retained.

The Blue House’s explanation is based on legal provisions: “According to the ‘Act on the Treatment of Former Presidents,’ although other benefits for a former president may be canceled due to impeachment or sentencing, security services are still continuously provided.”

Thus, Park Geun-hye’s security is legally mandated and not a personal choice.

The reason the Blue House arranged for a female bodyguard was also due to safety concerns, believing that a female bodyguard could more conveniently provide close protection for Park Geun-hye.

So, what are this female bodyguard’s duties?

Of course, the primary task is to protect Park Geun-hye’s life and property, with the responsibility to be ready to sacrifice herself if necessary.

According to regulations from the Korean Security Service, the female bodyguard’s duty is to sacrifice herself when needed to ensure Park Geun-hye’s safety.

Therefore, the decisive and professional instincts the bodyguard showed when blocking the flying bottle were entirely in line with her job requirements.

However, Park Geun-hye did not limit this bodyguard’s role to security work; the bodyguard also serves as her personal assistant, helping with daily tasks such as passing on messages and running errands.

Additionally, since Park Geun-hye leads a rather monotonous life and has few friends, her relationship with the female bodyguard seems particularly close.

They often take walks and chat together, and their daily interactions appear quite natural, as if they’ve been that way for a long time.

As an elderly former president, Park Geun-hye may sense a positive attitude toward life from the young female bodyguard.

The presence of this bodyguard not only brings her a sense of security but also adds a bit of vitality to her otherwise quiet life.

Despite the busy nature of the bodyguard’s work, her future seems to be set.

According to South Korea’s ‘Presidential Security Act’: “Security services for former presidents must be continued for 10 years unless they personally object, and it can be extended for another 5 years.”

This means that if Park Geun-hye is willing, the female bodyguard could stay by her side for up to 15 years.

By that time, Park Geun-hye may be even older and have difficulty walking, making her even more in need of companionship, and this female bodyguard may play an important role in her later years.
