1. Vladivostok Region, Russia: South Korea has always claimed the Vladivostok region as its territory, stressing that it will take action to recover it if necessary.

However, Vladivostok is not the original home of China, but was assigned to Russia under an unequal treaty after the signing of the Treaty of Beijing between the Qing Dynasty and Tsarist Russia in the mid-19th century.

It is 700 kilometers from North Korea but does not directly border South Korea. Given the historical context and geographical ties, does South Korea's outcry seem too hasty?

2. Rajin Island, Russia: South Korea insists that Rajin Island is part of its territory, even though it lies north of North Korea.

In fact, however, Rajin Island is closer to the Chinese village of Fangchuan, which was once the estuary of China's Tumen River.

The area has historically been the border between China and North Korea, but South Korea's claim has sparked a territorial dispute between the two countries.

Should South Korea review its claim to Rajin?

3. Yanbian Area, Jilin Province, China: South Koreans call Yanbian area Jian Island, which is a unilateral name for China's Yanbian area, but in fact, this area has no actual border with South Korea.

However, South Korea's designation may cause unnecessary tension in the region and increase misunderstandings and contradictions between China and South Korea.

Should South Korea consider adjusting its naming of Yanbian?

4. Changbaek Mountain, Jilin, China: South Koreans display banners at major sporting events saying that the mountain belongs to South Korea, but part of the mountain actually belongs to North Korea.

Such behavior may not only cause discontent and tension between China and North Korea, but also have a negative impact on relations between China and South Korea.

Should South Korea handle such issues prudently to avoid unnecessary challenges to regional stability?

5. Suyan Reef and Sunxiang Reef, South China Sea: South Korea has built structures on Suyan Reef and Sunxiang Reef, claiming that they are bases for scientific research.

However, more than a dozen rounds of negotiations have been held between China and South Korea, but the issue has not been resolved.

The dispute has not only affected relations between the two countries, but could also increase tensions in the South China Sea region.

Should South Korea actively seek reconciliation and engage in a more constructive dialogue with China on the South China Sea issue?

6. Takeshima, Japan: South Korea effectively controls Takeshima, calling it Dokdo.

Although Takeshima is located between Japan and Korea, its ownership has long been disputed. The dispute has not only affected Japan-South Korea relations, but also posed a challenge to stability in East Asia.

Should South Korea seek solutions from the International Court of Justice or other international bodies to maintain peace and stability in the region?
